PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
This spring the Council of State Speech-Language-Hearing Association Presidents (CSAP) is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the adoption of its by-laws. What a privilege it is to be serving as CSAP President during this special year! Our organization’s mission is to provide leadership training for state association presidents and to support networking and collaboration between them.
This year’s theme, "State Associations- Good, Better, and Beyond through Enhanced Leadership," was chosen because leadership is integral to CSAP’s mission and because what we do and how we lead truly matters.
The quality of leadership, more than any other single factor,
determines the success or failure of an organization.
- Fred Fiedler & Martin Chemers
Improving Leadership Effectiveness
We will explore various leadership skills and build upon them during the year. Through your participation in the discussion list, teleseminars, utilization of the website, and attendance at our spring and fall meetings, your ability to lead your state organization will be enhanced.
There is no better place than CSAP to learn and grow. I encourage you to ask questions, to seek answers. You will be in the company of dedicated leaders like yourself many of whom share similar problems and issues. CSAP is a unique organization created to support state speech-language-hearing association leaders. Use all its resources to your advantage this year!
Look for our comprehensive electronic newsletter which appears twice per year as well as monthly emails from me to keep you updated about important issues and provide you with additional leadership tips. Communicate with me and/or with our outstanding Executive Board, Commissioners, Committee members, and the CSAP office with questions, suggestions, and comments. Contact me at: lstevens@emich.edu.
I look forward to hearing from you and both working for and with you this year.
Sincerely,
Lizbeth Stevens
CSAP President for 2008
